Discovery of inventions is one of the most important results of research. Inventions contribute to the academic and public service missions of the University by increasing the pool of knowledge and by making new technology available to the public for the betterment of society and the University. The responsibility of the Office of Technology Management and Industry Relations (OTMIR) is to identify, assess, protect, and market commercially viable intellectual property developed at The University of Missouri-Columbia. The OTMIR evaluates new technologies, obtains patent protection where needed, identifies licensees and negotiates all intellectual property agreements.

The OTMIR provides the means for applying these practices by offering business development and technology commercialization assistance to University and business ventures. OTMIR actively brings together the organizations, resources, and processes that will efficiently develop the university's discoveries for the betterment of society and the University. The OTMIR offers university faculty and students what they need to transfer technologies and create a start-up business by bringing new technologies to the widest possible audience.

This site is dedicated to providing our faculty and staff with information on intellectual property protection, the role of our office in the research process and services and materials of interest. The site also serves as an opportunity for industry representatives to access our featured technologies that are available for licensing.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the OTMIR is to identify commercializable technology resulting from research performed at MU, legally protect it, and see that it benefits the public, while seeking income for the University and the inventor/creator, as well as enhancing industrial relations and supporting regional economic development.
